Cristiano Ronaldo scores Juventus' 5,000th goal in the Serie A

Cristiano Ronaldo was the star of the day in Saturday's Turin derby as his goal secured a narrow 1-0 victory for Juventus. The Portuguese forward and his teammates were kept bay by Torino's bullish defense up until the 70th-minute when he was handed the opportunity to grab the game's winner.

Torino goalkeeper Salvador Ichazo brought down Mario Mandzukic in his penalty area after the Croatian got hold of an erroneous back pass by Simeone Zaza. Having been conferred the mandate of taking spot-kicks following his arrival from Real Madrid in the summer, Ronaldo made no error of the chance.

The win away to Torino saw Juventus match its best winning streak away from home in Serie A with their eighth straight triumph. The club subsequently extended its unbeaten run of games in this campaign to 16.

Still on the subject of landmarks and records, Cristiano Ronaldo's goal from the spot-kick was Juventus' 5,000th goal in the Serie A – a feat achieved by no other Italian club. The 33-year-old forward also became the first player in this century to score in six successive games in the league.

The former Real Madrid superstar is also on an upward streak with him grabbing his 12th goal in 21 appearances in all club competitions this season. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has also registered eight assists.

Juventus now sits 11 points clear atop the Serie A table.
