Carly Cushnie is introducing a namesake bridal collection

Shortly after Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs showed their Fall 2018 Cushnie et Ochs collection, Ochs announced she was stepping away from the label. Now, nearly six months after the shake-up, the company has completely rebranded as Cushnie, with the cofounder in a solo head design position. There’s a new logo, and on top of slight shifts to the signature design elements, she is introducing an expanded bag category and a denim line.

Even bigger news, today Cushnie is opening the lid on another exciting project: a namesake bridal collection. Cushnie Bridal will officially debut during New York’s bridal Fashion Week in October and all of the pieces will be designed with the designer’s recognizable minimalist and sleek approach.

No giant princess gowns here. The collection will include options not just for the wedding ceremony, but also for the bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, and reception in the form of a V-neck slip dress with a cropped lace top, a formfitting off-the-shoulder gown, and a head-to-toe lace jumpsuit with flutter sleeves.

Much of Cushnie’s inspiration for the bridal collection came from the experience of designing her own wedding celebration looks for her Mexico City nuptials last year. Though she said that experience was “difficult at first,” since she had no starting point or singular reference, Cushnie ultimately “didn’t really deviate from the Cushnie aesthetic.”

She played with lace and a few ruffles, but designing a wedding wardrobe simply felt like a natural extension of her evening- and cocktail-focused line. “Launching bridal is something that I’ve wanted to do for quite some time,” she says. “I’ve been fortunate enough to work on custom bridal pieces for friends and family and have often re-created existing styles in white for customers who requested it for their wedding.” She adds:

“My collections are always focused around the female form, creating clean silhouettes that make a woman feel both sexy and elegant. Bridal is the ultimate opportunity for me to do that in a really special way.” Here’s an exclusive first look at the debut Cushnie Bridal collection.
